BENEDICTINE PRIORY OF St. CYRIL AND METHODIUS
Uphold me according to your promise,
that I may live,
and let me not be put to shame in my hope.
Ps 119:116
Welcome
The Benedictine Priory in Maribor, dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius, has been active again since 2009. Originally established in 1938, it was twice suppressed in its history—first by the National Socialist regime, and later during the period of Communist rule. Today, a small community of two monks—one Slovenian and one Croatian—resides here, striving to renew Benedictine life in Slovenia.
As the only Benedictine monastery in Slovenia, the priory seeks to embody the rich heritage and spirituality of Saint Benedict, which finds expression in fidelity to communal life, persevering prayer, meditation on the Word of God, work, and the welcoming of guests with an open heart.
In the spirit of a united Europe, the community aims to contribute to reconciliation and the strengthening of peaceful coexistence among different peoples. Benedictine spirituality, which integrates prayer and work - ora et labora - also speaks to the modern person, burdened by a fast-paced life, and invites a more balanced and deepened way of living.
Prayer is the heart of Christian life. From it, the Church draws strength for her mission, and the individual finds inner peace, inspiration, and spiritual renewal. In the Benedictine tradition, prayer is not merely a devotion but a way of life—a continual search for God through the words of the psalms, through silence, and through daily deepening in the presence of God.
Benedictines, faithful to the principle Ora et labora—pray and work—give visible and lasting expression to the Church's prayerful heart through their regular liturgical prayer. Communal prayer is not merely an obligation of the community but a gift and an invitation to all who seek a deeper encounter with God.
In this spirit, all are warmly invited to join the prayer rhythm of our monastery according to the following schedule:

Hospitality
Hospitality is one of the oldest and most precious values of Benedictine monastic life. St. Benedict says in his Rule: "Every guest should be received as Christ." The monastery thus becomes a place where people can stop, rest, reflect, and rediscover God's closeness.
The peaceful environment, regular rhythm of prayer, silence, and simplicity of life offer guests the opportunity for inner reflection and spiritual renewal. Visitors are accompanied by a brother who is available for conversation, spiritual encouragement, or simply human closeness.
You are cordially invited to experience the beauty of the fundamental Benedictine values as a guest: peace, silence, prayer, and acceptance.
